Chinese phones mute Indian brands
Once popular across smartphone users, homegrown Indian companies have lost out in the race to Chinese brands, which today account for six out of every 10 devices sold in the country.
Indian brands such as Micromax, Karbonn, Lava and Intex - which used to lord over the burgeoning smartphone market till just four years ago - are just a pale shadow of their dominant self, finishing 2018 with a single-digit share against 43% recorded in 2015.
Chinese brands such as Xiaomi, OnePlus have been witnessing massive growth as they introduced new models, packed them with latest features, and backed it up with aggressive pricing.
But the home grown, eg Micromax, have been doung only labelling, selling Chinese phones, tablets etc badged Micromax and calling these made in India.
Even the basics, like hard disks, are not manufactured in India, but in Malaysia/Thailand!!!
Even our pride, Bajaj Auto, had been getting bikes made in China under their badge and exporting to Latin America.
Our manufacturing cannot be competitive unless we have sensible taxation

In world"'s biggest mobile phone market, there''s no home grown player to be seen anywhere, and it just took Chinese 2 years or so to clean up Indian brands, great case study for marketing but shows fundamentally great flaws in policy, our home grown brands which did all the initial work for growth of the mobile market should have been extended some protection by the government which on the other hand sees chinese brands a great security threat

A brand like Xiaomi offers great value. So, the Indian consumer found it difficult to resist their smartphones
the current situation is the result of stealing habits of ministers. when they were busy looting public money chinese acquired technology from west and now whole country is dependent on china for communication. If pm can''t appoint lokpal it means he fears being caught stealing or misusing power.

We have home grown success stories in automobile sector like Maruti , similar approach can work in Mobile sector as well. For Mobiles to be successful it should be latest in technology , offer value for money last but not the least should have good after sales service centers.
Maruti is NOT home grown. Maruti is Suzuki of Japan. The Japanese parent Suzuki Motor Corporation now owns 56.2% stake in Maruti Suzuki India.
It is hard to run a business in India and make a product which is internationally competitive. Indian business climate is full of bureaucracy and tax terrorism. Only crony capitalists who pay money to politicians to make laws which favors them can survive in India.

The Indian companies should retrospect themselves as to how they cheated consumers for which they are being wiped out. Their moto was making money only and cheating banks.
Yes. Never cared about customer support.
Indian products never really innovated. They copied the Chinese companies’ mobile phones.
NOT copied. They just rebranded cheap, mass-produced Chinese phones.
